Founders

Dr. Felix T. Limcaoco, Sr., nicknamed "Sugar" by his friends in what was then a small town called Cabuyao, was a doctor by training but spent much of his efforts developing his sugar plantations in the Laguna province. He was an industry leader in the booming agricultural sector at the time. Quoting from a Rotary tribute to him: "Sugar is fondly remembered when we see children of indigent parents getting education assistance and care from the many donations from "Sugar"... when church bells toll and people coming and leaving the parish church of Cabuyao which was built through the financial intercession of "Sugar"... happy fathers look with pride at their brood---wives and children because "Sugar" was a devoted father, husband and a dedicated family man."

Felix "Bing" Limcaoco, Jr., born in 1930, continued the businesses of his father and started LICA's real estate developments and automotive companies. As President and later Chairman of Luzon Development Bank, he greatly expanded banking operations. Today Bing is the Chairman or Chairman Emeritus of LICA's various companies and the F.T. Limcaoco Foundation. Previously, he was an engineer at California Texas Oil and a banker at the Philippine National Bank. He also spent time in serving the country, as Administrator for the National Electrification Administration, as a Director for NAMFREL (National Movement for Free Elections) and as a Director at the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Bing Limcaoco was educated at the Ateneo de Manila, the University of the Philippines, and at Cornell University, where he earned his Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering. He was awarded by the University of the Philippines School of Engineering Most Distinguished Alumnus.

FORFOM Trading and Tetra Ford

A circa 1970's advertisement for the new Ford franchised dealership, Tetra Ford, and its sister company, FORFOM Trading, is shown here. Tetra, originally an acronym  for "Tagalog Equipment Trading", became a franchised dealer for the Ford Motor Company in the 1960s, and  grew to become one of the top performing Ford dealerships in the country, with branches covering the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas and Rizal Provinces. Ford, at that time, was the market leader in the country. FORFOM, an acronym of the initials of the of the six Limcaoco family members, was one of early distributors and service providers for the agricultural equipment necessary for the sugar plantations in the area.

Laguna Development Bank

Be it said without any doubt, that the significant, singular characteristic that epitomized the founders of Laguna Development Bank was their pioneering spirit in the field of private development banking. Laguna Development Bank was founded in 1961 by a group led by Felix T. Limcaoco and his son, Rene H. Limcaoco, the elder brother of "Bing" Limcaoco. LDB  serviced the banking needs of the sugar planters in the Laguna and its environs, and expanded to a full-service bank doing a wide variety of commercial, residential, and consumer lending as well as agribusiness loans. It was renamed Luzon Development Bank or, more commonly, simply LDB, to reflect its increasing area of coverage as its branch network grew. It became the largest private development bank in the CALABARZON.

Sugar Plantations

Sugar was a leading crop in the Philippines in the 1960's, especially in the province of Laguna and Cavite.

Because of their proximity to Metro Manila and the industrialization of Laguna, much of the sugar plantations of the group have since been converted into various real estate projects.

Swiss Inn Restaurant

The Swiss Inn has been delighting customers since 1946. Started by a Swiss national, Mr. Emil Landert, Swiss Inn’s first branch was located in what was then known as Dewey Boulevard, now known as Roxas Boulevard. Many people, both expatriates and locals, were charmed by its authentic Swiss cuisine, quaint wooden interiors, and personal service.

To this day, the Swiss Inn, now with multiple locations throughout Metro Manila, continues to delight discriminating patrons.
