Cabuyao Children's Center

The Limcaoco Foundation is  trying to set up the Cabuyao Children’s Center in the Limcaoco ancestral home in Cabuyao, Laguna. We want to do this primarily to be able to give the kids and parents a place to go for fun education. Our first project for this center is the Children’s Library, since we are both lovers of Children’s Literature, and would like to encourage a love for reading. I would like to ask any of you who have old books, or whose children have outgrown their books, if you would like to donate them for this facility. I will pick up/coordinate/do anything to make it easier for you to donate J. At the very least, it’s a good way to do some house cleaning. We need books for kids 12 years and below.

The Famous Five, Nancy Drew, the Velveteen Rabbit, Anne of Green Gables, Encyclopedia Brown, A Very Hungry Caterpillar, Jo March, Curious George, King Aslan….
If these were some of your friends growing up, then you must have discovered the wonderful world of Children's Literature early on! Sadly, the tradition of spending a few quiet hours reading a book for  entertainment, education or merely escape has been neglected in recent years as more exciting forms of media have become more prominent. In some disadvantaged communities, the tradition may never have even started at all as the children have had little to no access to these types of books.

To start the reading crusade in the town of Cabuyao, Laguna, The Limcaoco Foundation has donated the use of our grandparents' ancestral home for the creation of The Cabuyao Children's Center. The centerpiece of the facility will be The Reading Room, a collection of classic and contemporary books for children aged 2 to 12.

We believe storytelling happens in many ways, hence the CCC will also have nooks for storytelling, puppet shows, developmental toys, educational computer programs and rooms dedicated to arts and crafts and film showing. To cater to more energetic kids, the grounds will also house little plots for planting, two playgrounds, and sand and water play areas. All of these facilities will be offered free of charge to the children of the community!

That's the GRAND plan for now. To get the wheels in motion, we are imploring to those readers (and former readers) to donate some of their old children's books to get our collection started. We need 1,000 books to open the CCC by mid-July.

We realize it may be difficult to say goodbye to these characters who we have grown up with, or who perhaps have become dear to our own children's hearts. But in order for these characters to continue to be immortal, they have to be passed on to future generations.

If you would like to donate ANY children's books or toys for the other facilities, please email us at Charina.Mercado@gmail.com and klimcaoco2@yahoo.com or contact us at 0917-894-6646 (Chary) or 0918-9999-528 (Katrina). We can pick up donations that are in quantities too heavy for you to lug around.

Many thanks for your time,
Chary and Katrina
