Hertz sees RP biz doubling by end-2008 By Leah B. del Castillo Special Projects Editor FLEET management and vehicle leasing and rental company Hertz, whose franchise in the Philippines is represented by Exclusive Cars International Holdings Inc., is eyeing to double its Philippine business by end-2008. Unlike the other car rental companies in the Philippines, Hertz specializes in high-end vehicles mostly for limousine services for corporation and individuals, said Toby de los Reyes, Hertz Philippines director for fleet management, in an interview Wednesday. On Wednesday, the five-star Pasay City hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza unveiled its BMW limousine fleet, whose units were provided by Alabang-based dealer Autozentrum BMW and Hertz Philippines. The Sofitel Philippine Plaza fleet is composed of one BMW 730Ld long wheel base limousine, and four BMW 520d luxury sedans. De los Reyes said the units for the Sofitel fleet came from Germany and are not available in local dealerships. Among the luxury specifications of the 730Ld are rear seat entertainment, climate controls, stereo controls and privacy screens. Sofitel’s BMW fleet is the first, and so far the only, all-premium-diesel limousine fleet in the country. “The decision to choose the new BMW 7 Series and 5 Series fleet is a recognition of BMW Group’s worldwide reputation and market position in the premium luxury car sector,” said Andreas Biehler, president of BMW Philippines, in a statement. “Moreover, the choice of all-diesel engines underscores the mutual desire of our companies to provide world-class luxury services with a strong sense of social responsibility.” At present, Hertz Philippines has 105 vehicles nationwide, servicing executives and clients of hotels in Metro Manila and the provinces, including Cebu City’s Marriott Hotel. According to de los Reyes, a big contract with a big Metro Manila-based hotel may be sealed before the year ends. Already, it has signed up the Manila Hotel for three major events including the World Boxing Council Annual Convention this November. Exclusive Cars International is a subsidiary of Lica Management and Holdings Inc., whose businesses involve the automotive, real estate and hospitality, financial services and information technology. Lica owns 10 car dealerships of brands including Suzuki, Hyundai, Nissan, General Motors and BMW, and the car services chain Rapide. |
