PROPERTY FOCUS: NISSAN WESTGATE Alabang

Spunky showroom to add silver lining to Westgate

MODERN structures are transforming a posh area of Alabang, Muntinlupa, into a fast-rising satellite city in Metro Manila.

While lifestyle and service centers are mushrooming in this changing mini metropolis, greeneries serve as breathing space.

Set to add glamour to Westgate's aristocratic image is a 2,000-square-meter auto showroom and service center -- touted by its creators as a trendy display center.

Totally redesigned concept

The structure, a dealership of Nissan Motor Philippines, will be situated on Alabang-Zapote road and carry a totally redesigned concept.

The idea of the showroom's reimaging originated from a group of Japanese architects. The showroom is scheduled to be unveiled in a few weeks.

The whole facade will be dominated by glass and comprise a high ceiling (around six meters) with a drop ceiling near the customer lounge. It will have a mezzanine, which will house the office. The ground floor is where the sales, service, accessory, showroom, reception areas and a proposed coffee shop will be located.

The structure will be transparent and strategically placed so the vehicles would stand out and not the other way around. The minimalist design is expected to entice the market.

The showroom would mimic Nissan's luxury vehicles' comfort, which means the presence of creature comforts such as lounges, sofas, information and multimedia walls (modular walls) and upgraded services.

Next auto capital

The Alabang-Zapote stretch, particularly in the Westgate vicinity, is being packaged to become the next modern auto capital in Metro Manila. If plans push through, several automotive car showroom structures are scheduled to move in the area.

The auto display areas will be complementing the smaller versions of auto service centers of the vicinity known as "auto precincts."

Instead of cramping as many cars as they can inside the showroom, Nissan Westgate would offer more breathing space, a homey touch of the interior and strokes of wood color.

The person making sure that the showroom's design criteria would be met is Nissan Westgate local consultant-architect Gilbert Lui.

Trendsetter

Says Lui: "Nissan Westgate could act as a trendsetter in this area. It's a bold move by Nissan to revamp its overall image."

He explains that with the new standards set by the Nissan auto showrooms, each car would be positioned strategically so onlookers would better appreciate the view. "One can walk around the cars with all the doors open. There's enough breathing space," he says.

Building materials to be used include aluminum composites. The entry elements like the fascia and the canopy are made of silver and aluminum panels, with accents of red.

"The entry of auto showrooms is perfect timing for car manufacturers, because new models are coming out in 2003. The re-branding of the Nissan showroom would jive with newest entry SUV X-Trail."

Facelift

Lui explains no matter how hot the newest cars looked, if their showroom's packaging is not modern or presentable, buyer's preference would then be adversely affected.

He adds that Nissan Westgate is just the start. In three to five years, all of the Nissan showrooms would undergo their own "facelifts."

Lui discloses Nissan recently implemented a worldwide reimaging. The automaker, he says, wanted to project a new image and get rid of its old structures.

With the reimaging, Nissan also aims for uniformity in its dealerships.

The Nissan Westgate dealership, together with Nissan Gallery, was chosen to lead the reimaging campaign in the Philippines.

Says Lui: "Among the many changes would be the Nissan logo. If you compare it with the other Nissan logos, you will notice a subtle but distinct difference. They made it bolder."
