Stepping-out party. Nissan Southwoods managing director Felix Limcaoco III; Nissan Motor Philippines Inc. president Allen Chen; and Marian Calimon, NMPI vice president for finance; unveil the new Nissan Serena in the newly refurbished Nissan Southwoods showroom. --ROY DOMINGO Text by Andy Sevilla THERE’S no stopping Nissan Motor Philippines Inc. (NMPI) in its quest to give the best to its clients as it re-established its presence in the high-end van segment and inaugurated its newly refurbished dealership in the south. The new Serena is Nissan’s answer to the needs of its long list of clients for a modern lifestyle van that is powerful yet a joy to ride for members of the family. “We are pleased to reintroduce the Nissan Serena to the Philippine market. This dynamic and versatile addition to the NMPI lineup offers the convenience of a van and the performance and handling of a passenger car. The roominess and flexibility of the new Serena fits the active lifestyle of the modern Filipino family,” said Steven Hu, assistant vice president of NMPI sales and marketing division. Hu added that the good-looking van “is positioned as the ultimate lifestyle van for the modern Filipino family for its sophistication and versatility.” Hu also joined NMPI president Allan Chen and other top NMPI officials in unveiling the new Serena at the new showroom of the Nissan Southwoods at the entrance of the Carmona Toll Plaza in South Luzon Expressway. Also present were Nissan Southwoods managing director Felix Limcaoco III and general manager Tey Sornet (who also manages the Nissan Westgate Alabang and the Nissan Shaw Center in Mandaluyong City). The redesigned Nissan Southwoods was a perfect venue for the launch of the Serena as hundreds of guests witnessed the unveiling of the two leaders in dealership and modern lifestyle vans. Limcaoco revealed that the Nissan Southwoods has been honored as the No. 1 Nissan dealer for the past three years. “We have been consistent in our sales and in our delivery of satisfaction to our customers. We would like to thank Nissan for this and also our satisfied clients who have been loyal to Nissan for sometime now.” Many were delighted to see the most-talked-about QR25DE DOHC 16-valve engine that is the powerhouse of the new Nissan Serena, which has two variants—the 250 Luxury model and the 250 Elegance model. This is the same engine that powers the popular X-Trail. The new vehicle sports a 2.5-liter engine, which is more powerful than its 2.0-liter predecessor and capable of delivering 160 ps at 5,600 rpm. The vehicle boasts of CVTC, which promotes fuel economy without sacrificing power. During a test drive that followed after the unveiling of the new vehicle, this writer together with NMPI senior manager for market and product planning department, Raymond Tribdino, and Manila Standard Today’s Dino Directo took the Serena on a short cruise to Carmona proper. The roomy interior and the car-like comfort really impressed us no end. Tribdino showed the vehicle’s amenities such as the range-sensing CCD back monitor that shows the whole space behind while you are backing out; the built-in air massager—a first in its class that gently massages muscles of the back and lower body while you are driving; the smooth automatic-shut twin sliding doors that softly shuts the door without any help from the passenger; a large LCD monitor at the center that easily ticks away with a press of a button; a top-quality entertainment system and superb air-conditioning system. There are many more features that go with the new Nissan Serena and Tribdino said that prospective buyers are invited to test-drive one now at their nearest Nissan dealer in order to feel the new modern lifestyle van in the country today. One can step into the good life and Serena will bring you there in comfort and style.
