Swiss Inn celebrates 61 years with a price rollback On August 28, 2006, Old Swiss Inn fans were caught in a time warp. The restaurant rolled prices back to 1946 to celebrate 60 years of Manila's finest Swiss and European cooking, and thank the customers who have made it one of Manila's most enduring establishments. Diners were amazed at the prices: Peppersteak at P23, Sausages at P11. The most expensive dish on the menu was the Prime Rib, at a whopping P35. New and long-time patrons -- some who were regulars at the original Dewey Boulevard and Paco restaurants -- savored the history and the ever-hearty food. By rollback night, there was a waiting list of over 1,000. In the days after, diners who were unlucky enough to have missed the time-warp called and asked when the next would be. So on August 1, 2007, Swiss National Day, history repeats itself, with all three Old Swiss Inn restaurants -- in Makati, Alabang and Paco -- rolling back prices again. And hopefully starting an annual tradition. Sentimental Journey At last year’s 60th anniversary Price Rollback, one couple was especially sentimental about Swiss Inn: in 1972, Manuel and Cecille Marañon got married and held their reception at the original Paco Branch. They attended the Rollback in the Alabang branch with their entire family, and remembered how in their wedding reception, 120 guests came, though they had invited only 60. How their family and friends particularly enjoyed the roast chicken with gravy and rice pilaf. Along with the wedding photos, the Marañons kept the bill as a momento. P1,200 for the whole deal, Now that’s a rollback! Gift Baskets Swiss Inn’s popular dishes and roasts are now available as gift baskets and take-outs. Fondue and Raclette Nights Swiss cuisine – like most European food – is better with wine. Especially the right wine. This year, Swiss Inn started to hold food and wine nights, highlighting their specialties like fondue and raclette, to cater to connoisseurs and food lovers seeking to heighten their enjoyment of one of life’s pleasures. The fondue and Raclette Nights were generously sponsored by Philippine Wine Merchants and Best World Beverages. Each night featured a menu with free-flowing wines at giveaway prices. With all the calls for more of these wine pairing nights, watch out for more of these events. The next Raclette Night is scheduled in August, again sponsored by Philippine Wine Merchants. Why We Like Fondue Fondue dining captures the modern trend of dining – and cooking – as entertainment. But it’s also steeped in legend and tradition. One tradition is, if a lady’s food comes off her fork, she to kiss the gentleman on her right. If a gentleman drops HIS food, he must finish off the wine in his glass. Or buy another bottle for everyone. Customs like these make fondue perfect for a group of friends, or for a date. Which is why all our Valentine’s day menus feature at least one fondue…usually the Toblerone Chocolate Fondue. What’s New in our Menu? While the old favorites remain as popular as ever, Swiss Inn has added new dishes….many of them perfect for family-style eating, whether you’re with family or not. For those hankering for the healthiest hearty cooking possible, try our Angus Prime Rib steaks. These come in Germanic proportions (as much as 1 kilo) and served with Angus Fried Rice, which comes in Filipino proportions (i.e. unlimited). These large portions are definitely meant to be shared, lest our guests feel daunted by their sheer size. Our Supersized Baked Pork Knuckles is based on our famous gnagi, and uses large imported European pork hocks. Large enough to sate four hungry diners, there is now no need to fight over the crispy golden skin, or the steamy, succulent meat, dipped in horseradish or mustard, and served with our very own sauerkraut. As of now, its only available in Paco. At 61 years, we’ve mastered – and refreshed – the classics, and added new dishes for another generation of diners. Our latest addition: Alabang Branch Last May 2006, Swiss Inn ventured south to open its third branch in the BMW Autozentrum Showroom in Alabang, just in time for our 60th anniversary. It has a decidedly different look: A sleek interior filled with modern furniture and modern art. The dining room is spacious enough for large parties. For smaller events, we have a function room for the nearby businesses, and families rooted there. What isn’t different is the food. Whether at the 60-year old site in Paco, or the year-old site in Alabang, families, friends and the office crowd know they can get their favorites, prepared with the same care and skill they’ve come to love. Sunday Brunch Brunch combines both the goodness of breakfast favorites and the heartiness of a satiating lunch. Brunch on Sundays should be even better, and Swiss Inn Makati serves a show-stopping Sunday Brunch Buffet for only P650/person that delivers just this. For the breakfast junkie, there is the all-time-favorite Pancakes Station and an eggs Station showcasing made-to-order Eggs Benedict. For those looking for Swiss specialties, indulge in all-you-can-eat Raclette, a Corned Beef Carving, and a Sausage Grillade. A Pasta Station rounds up the lunch corner, and for dessert, Toblerone Chocolate Fondue, which kids especially enjoy.
